First of all: the size relation of units and map is ridiculous. The map is incredibly small, compared to the plastic units and chips you need to place on the map. Especially in Western Europe (Germany), this is extremely inconvenient. Especially for new players. You cannot see borderlines, countrynames or IPC counters. You can hardly make out what units are situated where. Why couldn't you create a 30%-50% bigger map? It would've made things a lot more pleasant! If such a map does exist, please provide me with one or at least tell me where to get such an item.
Second of all: The manual (which I received in English, why is there no Dutch version, like the other Axis and Allies games?) is poorly written and makes no sense at all! I have never played an A&A game before and I had no idea what the manual was saying. There is no build up or logical order of chapters. For example: special unit combat like 'amphibious attacks' are explained even before regular combat...
Third: I have checked out other Axis and Allies games (like A&A: Revised or A&A: Anniversary). These games seem a lot better in everything! A lot of extra things are in the game, like money. Why is there no money in my version? Do I have to write everything down? I've also noticed there has been a reduction of a lot of rules! There is for example no weapon development in my game, but there is in other A&A games. I find this very frustrating, since I paid fair money for the board game.
Fourth: There are not enough plastic units at the start of the game! Especially Germany. You do have enough units to place on the map at the start, but you cannot purchase a lot more. Russia starts without infantry to purchase and the gray units (like anti air or factories) are very very little. The solution for this in the manual says: use plastic chips or write the name of the unit on a piece of paper. I would, if these plastic chips were small enough to fit into the borders of a country! The map is (again) way to small to fit units (and plastic chips)! This results in very frustrating gameplay for all players.
