LOS ANGELES Famed film and television composer Jerry Goldsmith has died.
Goldsmith's personal assistant says he died in his sleep at his Beverly Hills home last night after a long battle with cancer.
Goldsmith's long career writing themes for TV shows and movies spanned nearly half a century.
Among the films he scored were "Alien," "Patton," "The Planet of the Apes," "Total Recall," "Chinatown," several "Star Trek" films and "The Omen," for which he won an Oscar.
He also won five Emmy awards. The T-V shows he wrote music for included "The Twilight Zone," "The Man from UNCLE," "Perry Mason" and "Gunsmoke."
