Speaking with Game Informer, Pachter said of PS Now, “PlayStation Now is a joke. There is no publisher that is going to license content that’s less than two-years old because they would be concerned that they can’t sell as many copies if they make it available for subscription or rental.
“This has no prayer of working. None.”
Pachter’s rationale is that publishers will not license their game for monthly streaming as it will dent their ‘per-unit’ sales, along the same lines as bands on Spotify.

Sony’s Todd Liss told IGN that PlayStation Now will support “hundreds of titles” at launch.
At the closed-doors Sony event during which the boast was made, Sony showed Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception being played on PS4, and Ratchet & Clank: Into the Nexus on Vita, via PlayStation Now. So that’s kind of cool.
Weirdly, the event seems to have coincided with a strange blip on the PlayStation Store. If you log into the North American storefront and check the “Day-1 Digital” section, you cna now filter for PS3 games.
Confused? us too. You’ll get a couple of results – Dead Island Riptide, Ben 10 Omniverse, and MX vs ATV Alive – all of which are marked as free, and totally fail to do anything when you try to make them work.
Sony has finally started advertising PlayStation Now officially on its Bravia TVs in stores, as discovered today by one of our readers that snapped a picture at his local Best Buy.
You can see the ad below, showing an anticipated service availability for this fall. Of course this doesn’t mean that the service won’t come in the earlier on PS3 and PS4, which are still on track for the summer, as the ad is related only to the product on which it’s displayed.
One thing is for sure: Sony kept the PlayStation Now service under wraps so far, showing it off only at industry events that aren’t really followed by the general public and without giving it much time under the spotlight despite its potential. Now that ads are starting to pop up in our local stores, it’ll be interesting to see if the company will start a broader marketing campaign to raise awareness on its features.
“We’re pleased to announce that the Private Beta program… will make its debut on PlayStation 4 systems May 20,” Director of Strategic Planning Peter Jamshidi announced on the PlayStation Blog. “PS Now gives you the freedom to play select PS3 games like you already stream movies, TV, shows, and music — directly to your favorite PS Now compatible devices without any discs or downloads.

Indd.
