How to start a GTA2 Multiplayer game:
find someone in the same country or at least not too far away with broadband that wants to play (look at the multiplayer lists or ask your friends)
If you want to host a game you will need to find out your IP address (for internet games your IP never starts with 192.168)
In Win98/ME run winipcfg.exe In Win2k/XP run ipconfig.exe
run gta2 manager.exe
Click Network
under Protocols available
Click Internet TCP/IP Connection For DirectPlay
Since you are hosting leave the Protocol Connection box blank or put 127.0.0.1 (that's a local IP, it doesn't attempt to connect to anyone)
Leave Show Player Names ticked
Click Start Network Game
On the next screen write your nick name in the Name box
Then click create game
Then you need to give your ip address to your opponent
to join your opponent needs to:
run gta2 manager.exe
Click Network
under Protocols available
Click Internet TCP/IP Connection For DirectPlay
Paste your IP address into the Protocol Connection box
Leave Show Player Names ticked
Click Start Network Game
On the next screen write their nick name in the Name box
They should see your game listed and click join game
You should then both be able to see each others pings and the host can set the game options and start the game.
I find it too slow if pings are more than 150ms
