Hi,

I don't know why or how, but I seem to have lost all my bookmarks...!!! :'(

It was really weird, I actually saw it happen:
I was planning to clean up all kinds of browser files (cookies, history, session, cache, etc.) using CCleaner, as I always do. But I have a habit of always having around 10 tabs open at all times, with all kinds of stuff that I'm reading or working on, things I need to remember, etc. I would lose these when CCleaner deleted the session abd that's bothersome to me. Here's what I usually do to counter it:

I create a new folder. Then I save all open bookmarks to that folder. Then I would run CCleaner, let it do it's thing. At the end I would open Chrome, open all of those saved bookmarks from the folder again, and delete that folder.

What happened now, some time after added the new folder and saved all open bookmarks, I saw ALL bookmarks & folders disappear from my bookmarks bar, EXCEPT for that new folder I just created!

This actually happened to me before, when I was performing that same "ritual" before using CCleaner. Also again, the same "effect" of all my bookmarks visually disappearing (same animation like when you delete a bunch of text by holding the backspace button) except for that new folder.
Only that time the problem was solved by either closing and reopening Chrome, or rebooting my PC, I don't remember that part exactly...

So I didn't panic, was totally careless and closed & reopened Chrome, when that didn't work I and rebooted my PC and just assumed that everything would be okay like last time. BOY I WAS WRONG! Regrettably, this didn't fix the issue this time. And now this empty Bookmarks Bar has already synched to my Google account....

The last two days I spent maybe a total of 3 hours searching for an answer, trying a bunch of stuff, but I still didn't manage to bring my bookmarks back...
Going to that folder containing "bookmarks" & "bookmarks.bak" didn't help the files where like 12kB in size. (probably because I closed Chrome when I shouldn't have & a synch was performed)
I managed to find some better bookmark (195kB; dating from 12/13/2016) files by using software to extract files from a restore point ("System Restore Explorer" it's freeware). Like I said those files are dating from 12/13, so those bookmarks should be all of them, because they are that recent.
HOWEVER, when I opened them in "notes", I see some links, but I don't think that's all of them actually? (how could this be possible, the files are barely a week old?!)

EITHERWAY, I would first like to import those "better" files to Chrome (to see how my bookmarks bar would look like with those files) but I can't seem to manage this.
Could anybody be so kind to help me out with this disaster issue please?
Those are bookmarks dating back from 2010 so I'm quite desperate at the moment... And frankly also pissed, I don't understand how this stuff can happen. I trusted Google with my files, I stopped exporting my bookmarks years ago because I trusted that everything would be safe in the Cloud. Obviously I was wrong...
