Hi Steve, there once was a case where someone worked in a Popcorn factory for 25yrs, he inhaled Diacetyl for all this time and developed what is known as "PopCorn Lung",
This was the only case ever heard, the ingrediant that caused this was called Diacetyl, so there was scare about all this, the flavouring I use is Diacetyl FREE.
There is some stuff on the interenet that says about Acetoin, if any buttery flavour does not have Diacetyl it must have acetoin or Acetyl Propionyl. have a read here >>

How will we ever know what is safe, there is no medical eveidence on any of it Steve.
