nog wat nieuwe info:
Newest Final Fantasy XIV Info!

New info on FFXIV was released at Gamescom news event being held from the 19th to 23rd of August at Cologne, Germany.

The new information on FFXIV, announced just this June, was released at Gamescom. The presentation revolved around in-game footage, including a presentation revealing a very expressive new emote system. A trial area was set up to give players a preview of the Guildleve and battle system. We now know of the basics of the battle system! Here, we'll show you a few of the pictures from the preview as well as an interview with Mr. Tanaka, the producer.

Four New Classes Revealed

Monk (Martial artist), Archer, Tailor, Axe Warrior

Picture captions:

Versatile Battle System!

The auto attack system was used in [FFXI], giving players the ability to just select "attack". However, in [FFXIV], each attack must be selected from the action menu (the icons lined up on the bottom of the screen). There are many different ways to fight depending on the selected action menu, so even solo battles can have a deep element of strategy.

Different types of Guildleves exist, each with different goals set up on them. (Guildleves are like quests)

Open and Deeply Strategic Battles

You can freely set 10 of your abilities on the action menu (these will change according to your equipped weapon). You can also choose your items and emotes from this menu. Furthermore, "Dodo attacks from the right" appears in the message window. Could the direction attacks come from also be important?

When you clear a Guildleve, a warp point appears.

You select your ability or any action from the action menu. The gauges to the right of your character are what has been selected to measure the availability and strength of commands. The gauge under each ability name is the action gauge, to the left of the icon is the power gauge.

When the action gauge for the selected ability fills up, it then activates. The level of the power gauge determines the power and accuracy of each move, and the type of moves you can use change depending on your TP gauge.

The layout is freely customizable!

The status bars and the message window are all freely customizable. The player has the ability to move them to where they prefer them to be. The player can also change the size of the message window.

FFXIV Fast Play Report

We sent out our Dengeki Travel Team Osho to Germany for Gamescom to experience [FFXIV]. They were able to play the game and write up this report for us.

First, the playable version this time takes place near an Aetheryte (a teleportation device). There are different Guildleves to choose from. Once you choose a leve, it is automatically activated. After activation, your HP and MP recovers. A time limit is also displayed on it (this demo has a 30 minute limit). The leve I chose involves defeating a certain number of two monsters, dodo and puku.

During exploration, you can check the terrain layout with the map. Compared to [FFXI], the terrain has finer details and the field is considerably larger. Going south and we fight the dodo!

I immediately pulled out my sword and locked my target on. Battle start? Eh... why am I not attacking? I thought. It turns out that you have to manually issue commands to perform an action by clicking on their icon in the action bar or pressing the number key on the keyboard that corresponds to the ability set in the action bar. Some abilities (such as Red Lotus for the 1h sword) also takes TP to perform. However, TP will not reach 0 when used as a skill only uses a particular amount.

Even though you can activate a command once the action gauge is filled, if the player waits instead, the power gauge then begins to fill up. Waiting for it to fill up before activating the action will render your attack more powerful and accurate. With this, even melee fighters are no longer simple "auto attack drones" in [FFXIV]. It is important to time your offense and defense, putting the players on their toes during the game play.

It's possible to progress in the game this time without battling!

We were able to interview Producer Tanaka Hiromichi and Global Online Producer Sage Sundi.

Dengeki: How many Guildleves are there this time?

Tanaka: There are a lot. The rewards are not limited to just money or items, it can also be something like "Sword skill level up leve".

Dengeki: Say, for tailors, are there leves set up for them to craft?

Tanaka: Yes, in those leves, there isn't any fighting so tailors can level up their crafting skills like smithing and tailoring.

Sage: This time around, because of the Guildleves, players can focus on crafting to level skills up. They can progress in the game this way.

Tanaka: It's possible to reach the highest level without even having to fight once! This is one of the concept for this game.

Sage: However to reach the deepest dungeons, it might be needed to enlist the help of fighting classes.

Tanaka: Since the weapons have durability this time around, you can't keep on fighting with the same weapon over and over. Crafting becomes an essential element of the game. The fighting class will either be asking help from crafters or level up a crafting skill on their own!

een nieuw interview is verschenen in Dengeki.
paar highlights:
Misc. Q & A

Although there is no time for one at this stage in the development process, Komoto expresses his interest in having official offline events.

The Square Enix Security Token will be used in conjunction with FFXIV to boost account security, but it is not required to create an account.

Komoto says the control layout for FFXIV will not change much from FFXI. You can also still use a PC game controller if you wish.

In its current state, FFXIV does not allow one to change the window size or enlarge the text, but it is something they do plan to add.

Windowed mode is set to be a basic feature of FFXIV from the start. There are going to be web-based community tools and want to make it so you can have access to these while playing.

Miqo'te will have cat ears on the top of their head, just like Mithra. Komoto begins to wonder how they will be able to wear glasses, and starts laughing, joking with the interviewer to please go to the next question.

Although FFXIV races are similar in appearance to FFXI races, the lack of tails on Roegadyn were one of the changes they decided upon to make Eorzean races unique.

Characters in FFXIV will be much more expressive with a wider range of emotes and motions. Motion capture technology was used to create all of the body movements the avatars can express. Even the stoic Roegadyn will have a full ranges of emotes. Multiple characters being able to emote something together presents a number of obstacles for the developers, but they are considering it along with any ways to facilitate communication.

Conversely, the interviewer brings up an interesting point, saying that the removing Auto-Attack and making players select every action could make it much harder to communicate during battle. Tanaka admits it will have an effect perhaps, but he encourages players to think of the new system as like having a lot more weaponskills at your disposal.

The suggestion is made that macros could be set up that simulate Auto-Attack, but they feel this could make battle more complicated if not done properly.

Final Thoughts

Komoto reiterates how they plan to show pieces of FFXIV as the development cycle continues. They have focused extensively on Guildleve and information on the races is plentiful, so next up will be a deeper look into the Armoury System. At the last second, Tanaka interjects, revealing that the graphical side of FFXIV is only 50% complete and players can expect big changes as we get closer to the final version.
game begint er beter en beter uit te zien!

nieuwe info:
With the announcement of the campaign code for FFXIV enclosed in the first wave of FFXIII’s released and today’s announcement of gladiator and pugilist class details and weapons, things for FFXIV finally look like they’re going to start heating up. Today we bring you the info on the variety, visuals, and even the feel of these weapons in breathtaking detail.

Gladiator, the swordsman!
The freely attacking and defending tank

The gladiator is a melee fighter that brings sword and board to battle and boasts a great variety of one-handed swords to choose from: from short swords to long swords, double-edged straight blades to single-edged curved blades. The variety is not just in his selection of weapons, but also the way he uses them. A gladiator can take up his shield to protect his allies, or leave one hand open to focus on attack power, and this flexibility in battle is sure to become his strength. The gladiator can also throw daggers at his enemies, adding even more to this diverse fighter.

(From left to right by picture, not text)

The Winged Blade, Hawktail
This sword has wing decorations on the hilt. Light, sharp, and elegant, this sword is popular among defensive swordsmen.

The All-Purpose Bastard Sword
This long sword has both the slashing power of the Ul’daha swords and the thrusting power of Ishgard’s.

The Ancient Gladius
This classic foot soldiers’ weapon is still used today in sword fighting. Though its reach is short, it makes up for it with a strong blade that is easy to swing.

(His shields are on the next page, to his right, top to bottom)

Round Shield
This widely used shield is often decorated with spiritually symbolic images.

The Mechanical Shield, Lantern Shield
This is a mechanical-type shield with a built-in lantern. The picture shows two swords built into the shield, but these are incredibly difficult to use.

Pugilist, the brawler!
The Martial Arts Punisher

This hand-to-hand fighter is a master in traditional arts of self-defense. Although his fists alone could be considered weapons, the pugilist specializes is using hand-to-hand weapons to increase their power in battle. However, the pugilist must stay in close to make his he lands his blows aimed at his opponent’s vitals. Some pugilists use chakrams to gain their opponents’ attention.

(From top to bottom)
Battle Claws, Baghnahks
Made with the image of a tiger’s claws in mind, these traditional Eastern claws rip into an opponent’s flesh. The claws can be tipped with poison.

Bone Fist, Hora
These weapons can be made from bone, horns, or shells. They are not very sturdy, but it is said that they hold the instincts of the animals from which its materials were taken.

Defensive Fist, Himantes
These are the official weapon used in the Ul’daha martial arts tournaments. This light weapon is made of leather and is known for the way it protects the user’s fist.

Heavy Fist, Cestis
Made of heavy metal rings wrapped in thick leather with protruding spikes, these weapons are widely valued for their use in deathmatches with monsters.

Iron Fist, Metal Knuckles
This is a weapon made from a ring of metal with one end held in the fighter’s hand. Because of the sheer weight of the weapon, the power of its blows separates it from the other weapons.

Today’s Famitsu also included information about the FFXIII campaign, saying that the campaign code will be available in the first wave of FFXIII packages released, including those bundled with the Lightning Edition. There will be a special site opened after service for FFXIV starts, and users that input their code there will receive a special in-game item for FFXIV, but this is a campaign for Japan only.

There you have it. I hope you enjoy this information, and let’s hope even more information isn’t far off

deze info heb ik van mmorpg.com gehaald, de speciale code die de jappaners krijgen bij het kopen van FFXIII is niet een beta key maar gewoon een key voor een item ingame als FFXIV verschijnt

Previously, we reported on the translation of a few scans from Japanese gaming magazine Shounen Jump that indicated there would be a FFXIV tie-in for customers who purchased first run copies of the game, with what was largely speculated to be access to the game's beta test.

We have now discovered that the "Campaign Code" included with Japanese first-run copies of FFXIII will simply be a "secret in game item". Players will be able to redeem the item for their FFXIV accounts once the code is inputted into a special site when the game goes live sometime next year.

Sorry, folks. No beta for you!

jobs/classes:
What is the Armoury System?
The Armoury System is what guides individual player growth in Final Fantasy XIV. Through the Armoury System, players can change their skill sets, play styles and character appearances by equipping different weapons or tools. The system is meant to give players optimal flexibility in how they experience FFXIV.

How the Armoury System Works
On the FFXIV Web site, the functionality of the system is illustrated through a fictional character named Leeroy. Here's what happens during a day in the life of Leeroy:

Leeroy decides to try his hand in swordplay, choosing the discipline of the Gladiator. He goes outside to fight wildlife on the edge of his town's borders.
Then some friends come and invite Leeroy to party with them in some nearby ruins. The party already has several accomplished warriors and mages, so Leeroy sheathes his sword and equips his staff, assuming the role of Thaumaturge, his most advanced class. He then joins his friend, fitting in with the party seamlessly.
After the ruins party, Leeroy is following the river back to town when he suddenly feels the urge to fish. He puts away his staff and pulls out his fishing rod, taking on the skills and abilities of a Fisherman.
When he finally gets back to town, Leeroy equips a hammer to take on the abilities of a blacksmith. Using his skills he goes to work sharpening his blade and pounding the dents out from his armor. All in a day's work!

Disciples of war
---------------
Archer:
Archers are the uncontested masters of the bow and arrow in all its forms. Devoting themselves entirely to this ages-old technology, they are most respected, and most feared, for their virtuosity in such battle tactics as sharpshooting and high-angle fire. Archers excel at adeptly seeking out the most suitable ground for releasing their barrages, and are experts at deftly determining which type of arrows will best fell their quarry. Military-trained Elezen are generally considered to be the most skilled among archers, but tales of Miqo'te hunters and their prowess with the shortbow have also become commonplace across the realm.
When quivers run empty, as they are wont to do, archers are also known to be formidable adversaries at range with nothing more than a simple rock.

Lancer:
Lancers, who are among the Disciples of War, are physical fighters who wield a variety of two-handed polearms. The length of polearms allow lancers to deal lethal damage through stabs and thrusts from just out of range of their opponents. Polearms come in various designs, allowing lancers to deal slashing and bludgeoning damage in addition to piercing damage. Lancers can also through javelin-style weapons to damage or defeat enemies from afar.

The long pike was once widely used throughout Eorzea because of the influence of the esteemed lancer sentries from Ala Mhigo. Polearms evolved alongside advances in weapons technology and metallurgy.

Gladiator:
Gladiators are expert swordsmen, known for their battle prowess with blades of all designs: short and long, single- and double-edged, straight and curved. They favor combat at close range, where they masterfully execute a deadly array of hacks and slashes. The skill and pride of a gladiator instill such confidence that they are said to never shun a fight.
For ages, gladiatorial techniques have evolved and proliferated to a staggering degree, adapting to fit any combat style. Dauntless gladiators will often ready sturdy shields in their off-hands, eager to defend comrades-in-arms. Others opt to forego such encumbrance, focusing all effort instead on their sword arm and pure offense. In addition, gladiators are also known to be formidable with throwing knives, and are master battle tacticians.

Marauder:
The marauder is a combat specialist whose weapon of choice is the greataxe—a fearsome arm emblematic of Eorzea’s pirates. Their approach to battle is one of brute force, relying on strength and steel to crush enemies and sunder weapons.
They are highly sought after for their ferocity and intimidating presence, and are often employed to hunt down monsters plaguing the land, or to turn the tide of battle between warring nations. Throwing axes such as the francisca supplement the marauders’ arsenal, making them fearsome adversaries even at range.

Pugilist:
Pugilists are renowned for being rugged combatants tempered by ceaseless training and rigorous self-discipline. Though formidable even when bare-fisted, through the use of hand-to-hand weapony their destructive capabilities are compounded with the strength of metal, leather, and bone. They strike to close the distance between their opponents and themselves, as they outmatch nearly any adversary in close-quarters combat. Some have become so adept at this maneuvering that they are able to negate the reach advantages of even the longest blade or spear.
Many are also known to be proficient with throwing implements such as the chakram. Hurling them with massive force, the pugilist then deftly negotiates the distance to his foe to deal his devastating strikes.

Disciples of magic
-----------------
Conjurer:
Conjury calls upon elemental forces present in nature and concentrates them to a potency at which spells can be weaved. Through practiced meditation on the essences of creation, conjurers draw forth and absorb aether from their immediate surroundings. A wand or cane made from unworked wood is then utilized to focus the aether until it manifests as the desired spell. The seat of the Conjurers’ Guild lies at the Stillglade Fane in Gridania, where the voices of Eorzea’s elementals are said to be most powerful.

Thaumaturge:
In the hands of a skilled practitioner, thaumaturgy can be a force of terrifying destruction. At the heart of this school of magic lies the ability to call forth and command the latent aether within oneself through deep introspection.
To then mold that aether into sorcery, the thaumaturge makes use of a scepter or staff, within which is housed a medium—a natural stone imbued with magical properties. The guild is centered at the Arrzaneth Ossuary in Ul’dah, within whose hallowed halls are said to reside powers of life, death, and the beyond.

Disciples of the land
-------------------
Botanist:
The botanist's profession encompasses the procurement of resources from all forms of plant life. This includes harvesting various vegetables and grains, tending to fruit-bearing trees, gathering wild grasses, cultivating fibrous plants for use in textiles, cutting lumber to supply the carpentry trade, and more.
This wide range of raw materials draws the custom of various other guilds, notably the Carpenters', Weavers', Alchemists', and Culinarians'. Botanists also attempt to educate others about the importance of achieving a symbiotic relationship with Eorzea's plants, rather than carelessly stripping them of their useful parts. This is perhaps best exemplified by the revolutionary irrigation methods devised by Gridania, which first made low-impact, high-yield crop propagation possible.

Fisherman:
Fishers are the harvesters of the realm's marine and freshwater animal resources. The goods they obtain from their catch place them in direct dealings with both culinarians and goldsmiths.
Be it from the shore of a sea, the bank of a river, or the deck of a boat, Eorzea's anglers must constantly account for a wide range of factors to optimize their success, including season, time, place, tools, and bait. In addition, the sometimes perilous nature of desirable fishing holes, be they on or offshore, above or below ground, prompts many fishers to employ the protection of more combat-oriented professions. The primary tool of the fisher is the fishing rod.

Miner:
The Miners' Guild is responsible for the excavation and handling of Eorzea's mineral wealth, be it ores, fossils, precious stones, or otherwise. It should come as no surprise, then, that their most eager customers are the realm's Blacksmiths and Goldsmiths.
One of the Disciples of Land who specializes in drawing ore from the earth. To fully master the advanced techniques developed by the great mining nation Ul'dah, miners must undertake a wide range of tasks, from the meticulous prospecting of the most minute deposits to large-scale civil engineering. The guild staunchly subscribes to the theory of continental drift, and as such many among its ranks give praise for their patron deity Oschon, the Wanderer.

Disciples of the hand
--------------------
Goldsmith:
Goldsmithing is the practice of working precious metals and stones into a multitude of accessories that appeal to the Eorzean aesthetic. It also makes use of gold and silver, rubies and sapphires, and a myriad of other materials to decorate weapons, armor, and tools.
Due to the extreme value of the source materials being worked with, the guild has adopted a philosophy of "high risk, high return." This has given them a reputation for being laborious scrutinizers of market trends, always paying heed to the fluctuating economy.

Carpenter:
The foremost workers of wood, carpenters possess expert knowledge of the hardness, pliability, weight, and value of all types of timber. Their creed is to bring these natural traits to bear in the form of various wares, including utensils and furniture. Woodworking techniques were, and continue to be, developed and refined by the shipbuilding endeavors of Limsa Lominsa, as well as the towering architectural pursuits of Ishgard. However, it is in and around Gridania, home to the highest quality timber, that the craft's greatest strides have been made. Gridanian carpentry produces everything from the masks used in their religious ceremonies to the enormous structures that make up their city.

Alchemist:
Masters of Science and Nature, the devilish and the divine, alchemist ensure their livelihood through the transmogrification of mundane materials into wonderous wares-from curative concoctions to potent potables. Upon conducting their symphonies of commixing and combining, distilling and decocting, the impossible waxes possibles, and miracles are born.
The Eorzean school only recently came to be recognized in scientific circles as valid branch of alchemical orthodoxy. It is based on the fundamental principles originating in the Near East tradition, but draws heavily upon esoteric elements of both Lalafell herbalism and Miqo'te occultism as well.
"These crafters have a profound knowledge of rock materials, spirits, and so on. They can create medicine which has various effects. Their main tool is the alembic. Impressions: They can make medicine to cure and even to poison people. Can they also produce medicine from the herbs in the field? It seems like they have skills from Miqo'te mythology and Lalafell botanical study."

Black smith:
Often covered from head to toe in soot and sweat, blacksmiths forge their livings from red-hot steel, ever coaxing the unyeilding metal into submission with their tireless poundings. Whether it be smelting an ingot in the fires of a city forge, or hammering the dents from an adventurer's breastplate at a remote aetheryte camp deep in the wilderness, their work knows no boundaries-making smithing one of Eorzea's most widespread professions.
The roots of smithing can be traced back to Hydaelyn's bronze era. It was during this period that a system of apprenticeship was established, ensuring the methods of this art would be passed along to future generations. And while these basic techniques have survived the ages, countless different branches of smithing, including gunsmithing, have emerged in recent years, further broadening the scope of this ancient trade.
It is in the fires and on the anvils of Eorzea’s blacksmiths that weapons and tools of metal are crafted. Their work is in demand at all times in nearly every location, whether it be hammering the blade of a sword at the forge, or whetting the edge of an axe at camp. The tradition itself stretches back to the realm’s Age of Bronze, though the advanced metallurgical techniques passed on from master to apprentice today bear little resemblance to the simple practices of ancient times. The relatively recent birth of firearms has created an entirely new area of expertise which is being adopted with fervor by many ambitious members of the guild.
Blacksmithing techniques are capable of weakening enemies constructed of metal, as well as discovering loot that would othersie be overlooked by the untrained eye. Blacksmiths provide an edge to themselves and others by ensuring that weapons are always kept in optimal condition.

Culinarian:
Whetting appetites from dawn until dusk with prowess of pot and pan, culinarians provide more than simple sustenance. Armed with a cornucopia of ingredients from across the realms, and versed in methods from the far corners of Hydaelyn, these master chefs help adventurers maintain their strength on the battlefield, bringing truth to the age-old adage that the road to victory does run through one's stomach.
Although an established trade far before recorded history, it wasn't until half a century ago when Limsa Lominsan admiral and self-proclaimed gourmand, Guolskyf Bhaldwaensyn, known by the masses as "Mastercleaver", put forth a thalassocratic decree proclaiming the culinary arts a guildworthy craft. Henceforth, it has been recognized across Eorzea as a legitimate member of the tradescraft Society- its recipe compendiums now grace the shelves of every librarium in the realm.
"These crafters have great knowledge of food ingredients and how to cook them. Their meals have elemental properties such as fire and water. Their main tools are skillets. Impressions: I wonder if “food with elements” means food which has elemental properties inside or food which is made by using certain elements."

Tanner:
Contrary to popular belief, a tanner's skills are not limited to the mere boiling and dying of pelts and skins, but also encompass those of an armorer and clothier, for a true leatherworker would never entrust his hides to the hands of another. Perhaps a tanner's most arduous and time-consuming task is procuring the various coats and furs necessary for his trade, which is the reason why many who choose this profession tend to dabble in hunting and trapping as well.
The Elezen have long been known for their skill in leathercrafting, yet for centuries their techniques were heavily guarded. However, when dwindling numbers of guildmasters were threatened with the disappearance of their immense wealth of compiled knowledge, Elezen leatherworkers set aside pride and reluctantly began revealing those techniques to a select few. As a result, the quality of Eorzean-made leather improved significantly, creating an increased demand for products using the superior-quality material.
"They produce leather-based items such as boots and belts by sewing up tanned leathers. Their skill is originated from the Elezen secret techniques of dealing with tanned leather. Their main tool is the head knife.
Impressions: They can also make armor made of leather from boots and such."

Weaver:
From fiber to thread, thread to cloth, cloth to dress, and path of a tailor literally weaves its way from basic beginnings to extravagant ends. And while this alone can prove a long and arduous journey, a weaver's work spans more than just the spinning of strings and the sewing of seams. Those who wish to excel as clothcrafters must also stay attuned to the latest fashion trends, ensuring their custom are never scoffed by their peers for looking anything less than posh.
Just as the Spinner, Nymeia, spins the fate of all Eorzeans, the warp and weft of a weaver's work, too, have been known to alter the course of destinies both large and small. Perhaps this is why so many of the realm's tailors pay homage to the fickle goddess.
"These crafters use fabric. They make threads, fabric and clothes. They pay homage to the goddess Nymeia, who spins people fates on her own spinning wheel. Their main tool is the needle. Impressions: It seems that they can use all the fabrics from cloth materials. Moreover they can think about what is fashionable now and add colors on their fabric to make it more appealing."
