Binnenkort spelen we allemaal opnieuw met een pop:

30-Sony-Doll.jpg

While patents aren’t a sign of things to come (most of the time, companies file for patent applications just to protect ideas that may or may not be used in the future); a recently discovered Sony patent shows a new direction it might be taking with its gaming consoles. And a weird one it is.

The patent, filed by Sony Computer Entertainment Europe back in 2008 was recently published, and it shows an interesting looking doll that resembles some sort of teddy bear with a bit of Troll doll hair. The toy is supposed to be made up of a storage medium reader, a media content player, a wireless receiver and a processor. The “doll” will be able to move its limbs on its own, can sense human touch, light levels, has image and voice recognition, and a refillable reservoir for storing liquid that it can release when needed (i.e. to generate tears).

The doll is said to work with the PlayStation and PSP though it wasn’t mentioned how it will interact with the console. Fun for kids? Or another toy where nightmares stem from? I guess we’ll just have to see if Sony ever releases a doll like this.

Dus 2 nieuwe exclusives erbij.;)
GoW IV?:)

NTSC-J And NTSC-U PSone Classics Confirmed For SCEE

5998121302_cd07885118.jpg

Hello everyone,

I am very pleased to confirm that US and Japanese PSone emulations are being prepared for release on the SCEE PlayStation Stores.

While I cannot yet confirm dates or any of the titles in process at this time, there are a few that are already in process and you will start to see them publishing in the future.

What does this mean for you, the consumers?

Here are the key points:

Publishers who own the rights to release PSone titles that were previously only available in the US and/or Japan will now be able to apply to have them released on the SCEE PlayStation Stores (providing they are rated by the appropriate ratings boards for each territory).

All titles will be published ‘as is’, with either English or Japanese language game content where available.

All titles will run at 60 Hz and you will need a 60 Hz capable display to play them properly.

This also means that if a PAL version of a title has been unable to pass QA in SCEE, but the NTSC version is already available on the PlayStation Store in SCEA or SCEJ, we can look at publishing that version instead. We cannot simply take the US version and publish it immediately, as it has to be reprocessed for SCEE, but at least we know the title should already be relatively bug-free.

Please note: This does not mean we can publish titles that have not legally cleared for release in SCEE territories as a result of expired licenses, etc.

With this news in mind, we’d love to hear from you what titles you’d like to see available in Europe for the first time – make yourself heard in the comments and with the most requested titles we will speak to publishers on your behalf.

Have a great evening everyone.

Sucker Punch first-party !

Sony Computer Entertainment (SCE) announced today that leading game developer and long-time partner Sucker Punch Productions, creators of the top-selling Sly Cooper and inFamous franchises, joins the global development operation of Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide Studios (SCE WWS).

Sony Computer Entertainment Acquires Sucker Punch Productions, Developer of Top Selling... -- FOSTER CITY, Calif., Aug. 2, 2011 /PRNewswire/ --

Sucker Punch was founded in 1997 by three former Microsoft employees. Fleming said he and co-founders Bruce Oberg and Chris Zimmerman met while working on email technology in Redmond. The three were interested in video games and decided to open their own studio.

Today, about half of the company’s employees previously worked in the gaming industry – some from the Microsoft/Bungie world, Fleming said. The rest came from other industries or fresh out of school. About 30 percent are programmers and 60 percent are game artists.

Sony believes it has a promising new video-game franchise in the “Infamous” series, developed by Bellevue-based Sucker Punch Productions. So the PlayStation maker is snatching up the company, which has roots in Microsoft.

Sony on Monday announced it has acquired Sucker Punch for an undisclosed amount of money. The studio of about 75 people is located across from Microsoft’s building at City Center Plaza in downtown Bellevue, and is now Sony’s second internal game studio in the Seattle area.

't Is opgericht door Microsoft-volk en de helft van het personeel komt van Microsoft en Bungie.
Zelfs Jaime Griesemer, de lead designer van Halo werkt er nu.
