HRT's 2012 car will only make its debut at the third and final pre-season test as the car has failed two of its mandatory FIA crash tests.

Joe Saward zei:The team says that it will have the new car running at the first Barcelona test on February 21, but the first monocoque was only delivered on Monday. This had been due to arrive three weeks ago, but there were delays when the team decided to split with Colin Kolles. The cars are being assembled at Holzer Engineering in Augsburg, but before anything else they need to go through the mandatory FIA crash tests. The first of these took place yesterday and I hear that while most of them went well there was a problem with one of the roll hoop tests.
This means that the components must now be redesigned and manufactured in a new specification, and then a new crash test will need to be scheduled. In order to go testing with the new car on February 21, the team must have passed all the crash tests, as there is a new regulation this year to make sure that the machinery used in testing is as safe as the cars that are raced.
There are further tests taking place today, and there is little room for any more problems. This should not be the case as the Austrian composite supplier CarboTech has been building F1 cars for some years and the quality should be good enough. The firm is used by McLaren to make the chassis for its MP4-12C road cars, so it has a very good reputation.
The revamping work will all be done at Holzer and the key to success will be organisation of the different sub-contractors involved. And to some extent that depends of the workloads of the companies involved and their desire to work flat out for their clients. Thus money is also an important element in getting things done on time.
