Iets nieuws van Dan Houser (GTA, Red Dead). Er verschijnt eerst een 12-delig luisterspel, een game volgt later.

Set in the near future, A BETTER PARADISE tells the story of the ill-fated development of an ambitious but addictive digital game-world project led by inventor and psychologist, Dr. Mark Tyburn. As the advanced software they developed began delivering unexpected and disturbing results, the team fell apart under strange circumstances and the project was abandoned. The game world and the super-intelligence within were discarded, left dormant and undiscovered. Until now.

Interessante interviews met Lazlow.

It’s a new area for Lazlow and Houser, who are best known for freeze-drying specific moments in time, from the neon glow of ‘80s Miami to the turn of the 20th century. For Red Dead Redemption and GTA, they’d often dip into newspaper archives and immerse themselves in the time to see how people talked, what the issues were, and what people were interested in to create the most authentic rendition of that period. For this, they only have to turn their heads – the future is now and it’s not all flying cars and laser guns.

Rockstar’s games are plastered with imaginary brands, from the imaginary carbonated lemon and lime beverage, Sprunk, to its spoof on social media, Life Invader. In Red Dead Redemption 2, you can flick through old-timey magazines advertising cocaine chewing gum, and stirrups.

“We were obsessed with media – radio, television, advertisements,” Lazlow explains. “I think of Rockstar as a kind of demented ad agency in that sense. That is partially our vision of the future in A Better Paradise because advertising is already starting to be made by robots. We imagine that will ratchet up to the point where you're watching TV and it's a dynamically created AI commercial with emotional connections specifically for you. That's our vision of a feasible future.”

Klinkt toch al veelbelovend.

AAA, en al grote namen die meewerken.

Currently in early development, the video game is being written and creative directed by Houser alongside his worldbuilding and creative team which includes longtime collaborators Lazlow, and Michael Unsworth.

The game’s development at Absurd Ventures is being led by veteran studio head Greg Borrud who was previously General Manager of Niantic and co-founder of Pandemic Studios. Houser and Borrud have been building an elite team at Absurd Ventures studios and the A BETTER PARADISE game project boasts senior game development talent with previous experience from Bungie, Treyarch, Respawn, Insomniac, Riot, and more, with lead credits on best-in-class action and adventure games such as Call of Duty, Destiny 2, Valorant, Spider-Man 2, Hogwarts Legacy, and many others.

Er is intussen ook een boek uitgebracht.

De game heeft nog wat jaren te gaan, maar is nu toch al 18 maand in ontwikkeling.

"We are making a game set in the same world, but not exactly the same story. We've begun work on that about 18 months ago, and that'll be another few years in development."

4:52 over het boek
7:27 over de game
