Ik vind dat mensen hier nogal makkelijk gaan over het feit dat het January 6th onderzoekscomité in het bezit is gekomen van een Powerpoint presentatie waarin haarfijn wordt uitgelegd hoe de voormalige president van de Verenigde Staten en zijn Republikeinse handlangers plannen hadden opgesteld om een illegale staatsgreep te plegen.

Dat jullie zo'n nieuws enkel zien als een afleidingsmaneuver van kritiek op Biden...tja, dan moet je misschien je prioriteiten eens gaan herevalueren.

Moest Biden die kerel nu nog steunen had je een punt, maar politici die zich te vroeg over bepaalde feiten uitlaten is sinds Twitter ( en daarvoor al) helaas nogal gemeengoed dat het een zwak argument is. Op basis van wat toen geweten was was er met Bidens positie niks mis.

Het komt gewoon nogal schaamtelijk over dat mensen die Trump verdedigden tijdens zijn fenomenale 5 jaar durende leugenfestival, afgerond met een poging tot staatsgreep, dat diezelfde mensen dan 'schande!' roepen als Biden zijn stylo verkeerd legt.

Over de 6e januari: Liz Cheney las gisteren SMS-berichten voor die Mark Meadows (toenmalig White House Chief of Staff) had ontvangen van meerdere Republikeinse politici, Fox News presentatoren en zelfs Don Jr om bij Trump aan te dringen de situatie te kalmeren. Het was zelfs voor hen duidelijk dat dit onaanvaardbaar gedrag was van zowel de menigte aan het capitool als Tvan rump die weigerde de situatie de kalmeren.

Hierna probeerden diezelfde Fox News presentatoren de schuld dan wel bij Antifa te leggen.

“Mark, the president needs to tell people in the Capitol to go home,” Ms. Ingraham wrote. “This is hurting all of us. He is destroying his legacy.”

Mr. Kilmeade echoed that concern, texting Mr. Meadows: “Please, get him on TV. Destroying everything you have accomplished.”

Sean Hannity texted: “Can he make a statement? Ask people to leave the Capitol.”
Ms. Ingraham’s text came in contrast with what she said on her Fox News program in the hours after the attack, when she promoted the false theory that members of antifa were involved.

“From a chaotic Washington tonight, earlier today the Capitol was under siege by people who can only be described as antithetical to the MAGA movement,” Ms. Ingraham said on the Jan. 6 episode. “Now, they were likely not all Trump supporters, and there are some reports that antifa sympathizers may have been sprinkled throughout the crowd.”
Ms. Ingraham went on to cite “legitimate concerns about how these elections were conducted,” while adding that any dissatisfaction with the vote should not have resulted in violence.
Mr. Hannity, a onetime informal adviser to Mr. Trump, condemned the attack, saying at the top of his Jan. 6 show, “Today’s perpetrators must be arrested and prosecuted to the full extent of the law.” He also said that the nation must do more to protect law enforcement and political representatives.

On that matter of who was responsible, Mr. Hannity said, “I don’t care if the radical left, radical right — I don’t know who they are. They’re not people I would support. So how were officials not prepared? We got to answer that question. How did they allow the Capitol building to be breached in what seemed like less than a few minutes?”
Last month, Tucker Carlson, the Fox News host with the largest audience, produced a three-part documentary, “Patriot Purge,” for the Fox Nation streaming platform that contained the false claim that the Jan. 6 attack was a “false flag” operation meant to demonize the political right.
More than 500 people have been arrested in relation to the pro-Trump riot at the Capitol. Mr. Carlson falsely claimed in the documentary that “Jan. 6 is being used as a pretext to strip millions of Americans — disfavored Americans — of their core constitutional rights.”

These texts leave no doubt: the White House knew exactly what was happening at the Capitol. Republican members of Congress and others wrote to Mark Meadows as the attack was underway:

Dozens of texts, including from Trump administration officials, urged immediate action by the President:

Indeed, according to the records, multiple Fox News hosts knew the President needed to act immediately. They texted Meadows that:

-"Hey Mark, the president needs to tell people in the Capitol to go home...this is hurting all of us...he is destroying his legacy." Laura Ingraham wrote.

-"Please get him on tv. Destroying everything you have accomplished." Brian Kilmeade wrote.

-"Can he make a statement?...Ask people to leave the Capitol." Sean Hannity urged.

As the violence continued, one of the President's sons texted Meadows:

"He's got to condemn this s*** Asap. The Capitol Police tweet is not enough." Donald Trump, Jr. texted.

Meadows responded: "I'm pushing it hard. I agree."

Still, President Trump did not immediately act.

Donald Trump, Jr. texted again and again, urging action by the President:

"We need an Oval address. He has to lead now. It has gone too far and gotten out of hand."

Fox News presentatoren die zich letterlijk als een propaganda-arm van het Witte Huis gedragen. Ze wisten goed genoeg dat dit Trump aanhangers waren en dat dit enorm slechte optiek was voor Trump (Want ze probeerden via Meadows Trump te overtuigen de situatie een halt toe te roepen. Doe je niet als je denkt dat de verantwoordelijken anti-Trump zijn want dat slaat nergens op) maar voor de camera dan wel insinueren, of zelfs rechtuit liegen, dat de échte verantwoordelijken geen Trump aanhangers zouden zijn. Niet alleen dat: privé denken ze dus dat Trump hier zijn verantwoordelijkheid moest nemen en dat hij invloed had om dit te stoppen .. Maar eenmaal on air: "Hoe is het toch zover kunnen komen?! Wie is hier verantwoordelijk?!".

Former White House chief of staff Mark Meadows provided an email to Jan. 6 investigators that referred to a PowerPoint plan showing how Donald Trump could use emergency presidential powers after his 2020 election defeat to overturn the vote, according to media reports and lawmakers.

It was not clear who created the PowerPoint plan or how it came to be emailed to Meadows. Meadows’ lawyer said the former chief of staff did not act on the plan or otherwise do anything about the email, according to The New York Times.

Het heeft nog geen jaar geduurd feitelijk. Ik had eerlijk gezegd het nog iets langer gegeven maar echt verbaasd ben ik ook weer niet.
Akkoord met het scheve politieapparaat en het gecommercialiseerde gevangeniswezen in de US. Hervormingen zijn broodnodig maar zo iets vraagt tijd om dat logge apparaat in een andere, meer humane richting, te duwen. Niet door per direct uw holle slogans uit te voeren.

Ik vraag me ook af in hoeverre covid en de economische fallout ervan invloed heeft op de criminaliteit. Gaan mensen die hun job verliezen en op het randje van de armoede balanceren niet sneller naar misdaad grijpen?
