Review dubbed Episode 1&2
Wow... that is one way to describe the initial feeling of what just happened. Episode 1 & 2 of the Naruto anime series just aired on Toonami's Cartoon Network block and really many people were pleasantly surprised to see that it was a GOOD dub as is evident by the amount of praise that played out on the very busy Naruto Forums tonight as we had a live thread about these episodes going on that quickly saw many people join in, as I'm sure we will have next week. There really was only one very disheartening thing about these episodes, and it doesn't even have anything to do with the actual episode itself. My friends, I'm sorry to tell you that Akeboshi's Wind was not included as the ending theme song. It's ok, it's ok, I'll give you a minute to recover. Despite the fact that both the opening and ending themes were changed, it was a good showing of what VIZ will continue to bring us in the future with their anime series.
Now of course I have compiled an edit list of everything that was editted in the first two episodes, or anything that I noticed anyways and considered noteworthy. Firstly, I would like to say that the names were all left the same. Naruto is Naruto, Hokage is Hokage, Iruka is Iruka and so on. The technique names are also going with a practical literal translation, unlike the Manga series that VIZ also is in control of. There is no Doppelganger! There IS a Sexy Jutsu, but there is not any blood coming out of the nose of the Sexy Jutsu victim (look for that in the uncut DVD's). The content for the episodes is also the same, including the very important emotionally charged background music. I think we were all just overjoyed to hear things said with the correct words, for an example it is Iruka Sensei instead of the Master Iruka we saw in the English manga. There is so many things that could be said about these two episodes, I will have to rate them 8/10.
Now, a few of you may argue with the majorities point of view that this was a good dub, and that the voices were actually pretty good, and that is alright. You can have your say, but it really is hard to argue the fact that this is much better than almost anyone expected. The words were kept to what they should be, they were pronounced as they should be pronounced in the English language, afterall the voice actors are not Japanese and should not be expected at all to have the way of speaking only the Japanese have. The video and animation quality was also very good, and I can't help but feel relieved that doomsday is not upon us. The only way you could look at this with an overly negative attitude is if you were too busy trying to find the bad things instead of focusing on all of the good things that we have repeatedly hoped and prayed would be included. Looking forward to #3 (and of course Episode 151 of the Japanese Naruto anime series, coming Wednesday)!

golden boy bevalt mij voornamelijk omdat de voice-actor die kintaro doet dat echt subliem doet-I- zei:wablieft !!! Golden Boy subbed is good
ik ben juist de eerste ep aan't bekijken en die stemmen irriteren mij uitermate
edit: ik neem dat terug, ik lach mij hier dood met die serie

Iets wat raar is gezien de japanse voice-actors vaak veel expressiever zijn/veel meer in het karakter kunnen inleven met hun stem. De stem van kintaro in de sub klinkt wat "oud" en minder enthousiast/expressief.ik lach zeker 2x meer met de dub dan met de sub
(en er lijkt ook niet echt in geknipt te zijn)de "algemene" vrouwenstemmen vind ik ook wel net iets te fake klinken bij momenten
maar dat valt nog mee.Nujah "Akira" bvb kan ik subbed totaal niet aanhoren. (ik ben al 3x begonnen met subs en schakel midweg altijd over naar de dub) Hoewel er daar ongelooflijk veel aandacht is besteed aan de voice-acting (volgens mijn special edition disc : [) past bijna geen enkele stem bij het personage. (en eigenlijk vind ik ze ronduit irritant om naar te horen)
en de nieuwe dub volgt het originele script nagenoeg perfect.
Zoals gezegd verkies ik 80, of zelfs 90% van de tijd nog altijd de sub vanwege meerdere redenen. (als ik de sub goed vind doe'k zelfs weinig moeite van nog naar de dub te luisteren meestal) Voornamelijk het ongecensureerd zijn, het grote aanbod en op het vak van voice-acting laten ze weinig eens een steek vallen, doch het gebeurt zeker.

im not gonna do the spoiler text, becasue it's kinda long and the whole thread is spoiler
a while back i came across some information about the naruto's script on some chinese and japanese website. i thought they are very interesting, these are not from me, i just translated them into english.
before i start, i also want to say that i did not watch the series / read manga in english. so there are some wierd translation/misspelled character name. but i did my best.
so here it is:

4th Hokage
the 4th is actuall quite like the itachi that we've been described to so far. He is nice on the outside ana all but he is actually very uneasy with his position. On one hand, he has a duty to protect the village; on the other hand he feels the village puts a limit on his growing power. so during the raid of Kyubi( nine tail), 4th sealed the fox in the belly of his son naruto and left the village with his wife and founded Akatsuki. when the battle is over, and the 3rd saw the seal (and 4th instructions?), he mistakenly thought 4th used the forbiden technique and died. the whole village believing in the 3rd, and the legend of 4th lived on.
4th's wife
Naruto's mother, 3rd daughter. loving mother and loyal wife. she left her new born son with tears. later, she became a member of Akatsuki group. rank #8.
Itachi
after the 4th left Konoha, he sends invatation for the 3 most potential shinobi in the vilage. Orochimaru, Jiraya and Itachi. Orochimaru accepted immediately, but Jiraya and Itachi refused. 4th doesn't want to go against the will of his old sensai, but he did not give up on young Itachi. (i think there is a time lag between inviting oro and Itachi) 4th threatens to kill the Uchiha clan, Itachi still wont give in. thus 4th sends #2 ranked Akatsuki "white tiger" to murder most of Uchiha clan. Seeing that he is no match to Akatsuki, Itachi agreed to join if "white tiger" would spare Sasuke. Itachi want his brother to became stronger than him, thus lied about the family's death, hoping to let Sasuke's anger to become his strength. Itachi then joined Atatsuki as #3, Orochimaru as #5.
Orochimaru
Orochimaru's leaving Konoha was strongly objected by Jiraya. Jiraya ,always believed he could save Orochimaru, finally tipped the 3rd about Oro's secrect place, hoping his sensai would finally talk him out of it. (I dont think this is the same event that was shown in the anime, Oro left village long before Kyubi's attack) In Akatsuki, Orochimaru never trusted Itachi's loyalty with the group, and always was bitter about his being #5. He told 4th about Itachi's real loyalty does not lie with Akatsuki. 4th told Orochimaru if you have the power of Sharingan,
then i'll believe you. Orochimaru then chanllenges Itachi but lost to Sharingan. He then left the group.
Sasuke
Sasuke did not really turn evil. He only wanted to pocess more power. Sasuke's sharingan became more powerfull and eventually killed orochimaru with the help of Kabuto. In the end Sasuke killed Itachi and finally found out the truth, and was send again into despair.
Kakashi
Kakashi's wife is called Uchiha Obito(?). during the war with the thunder ninjas, Obito died while saving Kakashi. Obito only left kakashi her one sharingan as both lost an eye in the battle. (Ok, for those who read the manga, Obito is actually a guy and they are only kids... but he did die when saving kakashi and both did lose an eye.) Kakashi died in the
battle with "white tiger" while protecting Kai-sensai.(Lee's sensai)
Naruto
Naruto's final battle is with his father, the legendary "golder sparkle"(? dont know the translation), the 4th Hokage. Naruto defeated 4th with the help from his mother ( died while protecting Naruto, but wounded 4th). in the end, naruto became Hokage as he wished.
Others:
Sakura became tsunade's student. Garra became uh.. hokage counterpart of sand village (sorry for the bad translation). Hinata and Naruto got together, so is Shikamaru and Temari. ( some are told by manga already)

so.... before throwing eggs at me, i want to state again this did not come from me. and i dont believe everyword of it. there are definitely some plot holes that has been discussed in other forums. but considering that this thread was posted quite long time ago, i think there are definitely some validity to it as well. so give your thoughts on this..
