Becks confronts Galaxy fan
David Beckham had to be held back by security staff as he walked past a section of the crowd that had been jeering him during LA Galaxy's friendly against Milan.
The former England captain, who was playing his first home game after returning from a six-month spell on loan at Milan, attempted to jump over a barrier as he left the field at half-time.
Beckham attempted to explain his actions afterwards by saying: “One of the guys was saying things that really wasn't very nice. It was stepping over the line.
“I said: 'You need to calm down and come shake my hand' and he jumped over.”
Asked if he was about to make a Cantona-esque retaliation, Beckham laughed: “No, of course not.”
The man was arrested by California State Dominguez Hills police for trespassing because he left the seating area, a Home Depot Center spokeswoman said.
Beckham received a more than hostile reception in front of his home fans.
Earlier this year, the 34-year-old expressed his desire to stay with Milan, who tried in vain to push through a permanent transfer.
Banners were unveiled in the stands where the so-called LA Riot Squad sit, saying: “Go home fraud” and “23 repent.”
After the referee blew for half-time, Beckham tried to hurdle an advertising boarding and made a “come on” gesture towards Galaxy supporters.
One man responded, leaping down on to the pitch and running after Beckham, who was escorted to the dressing room by security.
Beckham was substituted after a decent performance in which he laid on both goals for the Galaxy in a 2-2 draw.
