I think society should be run by a progressive resource-based system without humans in positions of power.
The goals of this system would be to allow the most progress possible for humanity as a whole, and to allow freedom and the most opportunity for each individual to achieve their potential and pursue their interests, whatever those may be and if they choose to.
Human involvement in policy should be limited to humans providing new ideas and suggestions to do something better. Anyone (really anyone) should be able to make these suggestions and computers/algorithms, perhaps along with humans who have no deciding power, should evaluate if a suggestion adds to the goals of the system or not. Each idea or combination of ideas that helps progress, freedom, and individual growth should get implemented. There'd be no elections, only referendums could also be used to evaluate the opinion of everyone about how things are run.
There'd be no human or machine actually in power. Their only jobs would be to evaluate ideas based on objective criteria and let the algorithms make the decisions. Objective criteria would be all the knowledge and insights humanity possesses in all fields of study (psychology, technology, economy, sociology, biology, ... everything), without subjective interpretations (focused as much as possible on quantification of information). This system would also be resource-based and would have to strive for sustainable systems (in the long term: that means it'd be ok to deplete a resource if it leads to technology in the long term that would allow for sustainability).
The algorithm is aimed at "the most progress possible for humanity as a whole, and to allow freedom and the most opportunity for each individual to achieve their potential and pursue their interests, whatever those may be and if they choose to".
